Ohio River Project | Walkable Urban Planning

This was a two person studio project that was designed to serve as a bridge that connects two local parks and nature trails, and creates an uninterrupted green strip along Cincinnati’s Fulton Place connection to the Ohio River. Inspired by cities, buildings, and large scale developments that simultaneously embrace both urbanity and nature, we began by examining some of the materials and flora that are native to the Ohio River Valley.

Utilizing a series of plinths, rain gardens, promenades, and green towers to create a community that promotes a pedestrian lifestyle, calls back to Cincinnati’s many peaks and valleys, and allows for nature to reclaim what was once an industrial site. The interspersion of biologically diverse natural zones next to, under, and above key operational buildings has blurred, and in some places erased, the boundary between urbanity and nature, horizontality and verticality.
